Irena Y. Ghen, MSN, ARNP-BC

I am Irena, a board-certified nurse practitioner with seventeen years of experience in healthcare. I specialize in functional integrative medicine and anti-aging, offering holistic care to help my patients achieve optimal health and wellness. Besides providing healthcare, I also aid doctors, nurse practitioners, and other health providers across the US in learning the principles of integrative medicine through different live and virtual lectures and seminars.

My Professional Story:

“I started my healthcare career as a registered nurse and subsequently as a charge nurse on a Progressive Care Unit, Stroke and Trauma Center. During this time, I realized that modern medicine has many excellent interventions to manage acute health issues, but lacks in preventing and effectively treating chronic illnesses. I wanted to have a more direct impact on my patients’ health, so I decided to become a nurse practitioner.

I am a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, as well as Sigma Theta Tau and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. After finishing my Master’s degree, I started studying with one of the founders and experts in integrative medicine, stem cells, and anti-aging, Dr. Mitchell Ghen. I learned principles of functional diagnostics and therapies, such as hormone replacement, intravenous nutrition, detoxification, and appropriate use of supplements. I have been working with Dr. Ghen in clinical practice and co-hosting his radio and TV shows. My training enabled me to practice true holistic healthcare. I use functional therapeutic interventions alongside conventional medical treatments to assist my clients in achieving optimal health outcomes. I consider integrative medicine the future of the healthcare industry.

I believe that all clinicians should focus on wellness, prevention, and individualized care. To increase access to integrative medicine, I work with healthcare providers throughout the United States, assisting them in incorporating functional medicine principles into their practices. I interpret comprehensive lab and functional tests and develop integrative treatment protocols. I continually advance my education and training at various medical conferences to stay up-to-date with the latest clinical research so I can bring the best treatment modalities to my patients and colleagues.”

My Personal Story:

“I was born in a small town in the Czech Republic. My mother and grandparents used to grow their fruits and vegetables. They made delicious jams, fruit syrups, pickled veggies, and meals that were prepared at home with fresh ingredients. We used to gather medicinal plants, and when we got sick, we drank homemade remedies like teas, herbs, spices, and vitamins to deal with most ailments. We rarely needed to go to a doctor.

I came to the United States when I was twenty-four years old, barely knowing any English. When my firstborn son was about two years old, I realized that waiting tables was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It took nine years of school while working and raising my children to become a nurse practitioner.

Currently, I live in Port St. Lucie, Florida, with my husband Mitchell and two sons, Nicholas and Christopher, who are attending college. We also have a small five-acre ranch with 24 animals, which is our paradise where we escape as much as possible to recharge and reconnect with Mother Nature. I love gardening and have started establishing a food forest, and growing seasonal veggies and flowers. In my free time, I like to go to the movies, read, or just relax on the beach. Whenever I can, I like to travel and explore exotic destinations and different cultures
